Scripture link with rollover Tool Tip option turned on.

Hi, I’m petervcook, there were a couple of features I thought would make great additions to Scripturizer, so I contacted LO and asked if I could join the project to give the additions back to the WordPress community.

Scripturizer 1.8 was released today. The big new feature is rollover tooltips, your users can now see the ESV version of the verse just by rolling their mouse over the reference, no need to click. It also sports an easier installation process and streamlined admin interface.

Here is a full list of features:

  • Added rollover tooltips
  • ESV Show/Hide links can now be used even in the default translation links to another translation
  • Show/Hide links changed from [+/-] to [show]
  • Easier installation
  • Streamlined code & smaller file size
  • Redesigned Admin Panel to match WordPress 2.5
  • CSS Code moved to an external file
  • Added support for periods and endashes in the reference (ex. John 3.16–17)

This new version requires WordPress 2.1 in order to use all the features, while basic functionality will still work in WordPress 2.0.

Let us know what you think. Scripturizer is still the only Bible verse reference plug-in to support the NIV and the Message and many other translations.

There’s a pretty big bug in this version. The open in new window icon tries to open the scripture in my blog, and my blog server complains with “404 not found”. It should be linking to biblegateway, but it doesn’t.

I’ll revert to the previous version for now.

The official way to ask for support is at http://wordpress.org/tags/the-holy-scripturizer

Those are both very unique problems that I am unable to recreate.

@trentonadams, when you submit your support request, please include what version of WordPress you are using, what translation, what theme and if you have it opening in a new window always or via clicking on the icon.

Thank you, very cool plugin. but as a suggestion/feature request, could you put a maximum number of characters on the rollover tooltip view. because if you reference an entire chapter, the entire screen gets taken up. Thanks.

Love the plugin. I found that it conflicts with another cool plugin called Pagemash – http://joelstarnes.co.uk/pagemash.php – that I use for page management on the admin side of wordpress. It prevents Pagemash from performing its AJAX drag and drop functionality.

My work-around is to disable Scripturizer when I need Pagemash and then reactivate.

@herkamer Good suggestion, we’ve added it to the future feature list

@Steve Marr Good catch. It maybe because Pagemash uses MooTools and Scripturizer uses Prototype which may conflict. Does anyone else use these two tools?

Love the plugin. Any chance you can add support for the Deuterocanonical books found in Catholic Bibles? I use your plugin on my site, but have a second plugin (Catholic Reference Extension) that displays citations from the Deuterocanonicals not available using The Holy Scripturizer…I’d prefer your plugin, though, if these books could be added. (The RSV is a modern translation respected by both Catholics and Protestants which contains the Deuterocanon, available at bible.crosswalk.com, if that helps). Thanks!

Thanks for your input, but currently there are no plans to add the Deuterocanonical books.

Hi – I work with various Spanish web sites. Maybe I can help you get this running for Spanish. Let me know what needs doing.

Thanks for the plugin – I love it! Haven’t used it a LOT, lately, but I will be soon when I do my study on Galatians on my blog! Looking forward to it!

Thank you for writing this great plugin. I’m using it on my website, http://k-line.org. I tend to use a lot of Bible references, so The Holy Scripturizer really helps. It is easy to install and works exactly as advertised.
