Hello Friends,
I’m happy to announce Scripturizer 1.7 Beta, which I hope will solve some of the compatibility issues with WordPress 2.1+. Also, this release brings Scripturizer up to speed with the new API for the Bible Gateway.
Updates include the following:
New Usage Instructions and WP 2.1 Compatibility Notice March 2, 2007

Dear Scripturizer users,
I have added a new page to explain how to use Scripturizer’s features. So far I have instructions on how to create links using both your default Bible version and user-specified versions. (Please know that you can set your own default version to any of the supported versions listed on this page.)
In the near future I will add further instructions on how to use the ESV “get verse text” feature. (Which, speaking of this feature, I am hoping to re-program it along the lines of Simon’s nice Ajax-powered ESV technique in the next Scripturizer release.)
WP 2.1 Compatibility Notice
I have not yet thoroughly tested Scripturizer on WP 2.1. I think it should work just fine in dynamic mode, as opposed to static mode. But again, I have not tested it thoroughly. For the time being, I recommend not using static mode.
If you are running WP 2.1 please let me know if you have success or find problems with the Scripturizer plugin.
by grace,
LO

A Better Regular Expression for the Scripturizer 1.5 February 5, 2007
Posted by LO in Development, Releases.4 comments
Thanks to Chris
, who has his own great ESV WordPress plugin, the regular expressions in Scripturizer have received the first round of much needed updates. The latest code allows the Scripturizer to parse references that span multiple chapters, such as Genesis 2:1-4:5.
Thanks Chris for sharing your work!

This evening I launched a free Google Projects site to host development of the Scripturizer project. Google’s array of development tools will enable us to manage bug tracking and versioning in a collaborative environment.
So, calling all devs . . . if you like what we are doing, join the fun! Let me know you’d like to be added to the developers site.
1.6 Dev - Westminster Shorter Catechism August 30, 2006
Posted by LO in Development, Releases.7 comments
I’ve been playing around with a new feature which allows users to reference the CCEL version of the Westminster Shorter Catechism, and I’d like to get some feedback.
If you are interested in trying out the new feature, download Scripturizer Dev 1.6 and use either of the following two reference formats in your posts:
- WSC 1; WSC 64; etc…
- Westminster Shorter Catechism 99
Let me know what you think . . . Like? Dislike? (O come on, I know there’s got to be some Presby bloggers out there!
Also let me know if you find any bugs.
AJAX-Powered ESV Show Text Feature August 19, 2006

Simon Job, webmaster for Toongabbie Anglican Church, graciously and generously released the code for his sweet AJAX-powered show ESV text feature (see ESV blog writeup). I think Simon’s code can be nicely adapted into Scripturizer’s next release in order to revamp the current show/hide ESV text functionality.
For WordPress users in general, it would be sweet to turn Simon’s code into a WordPress Widget for sidebar functionality (similiar to how Simon uses the code on Toongabbie Church’s web site). And for Scripturizer users particularly, it would be nice if Simon’s code can also be adapted to work within the body of a post similiarly to Scripturizer’s current show/hide function.
If there are any developers out there who are interested in contributing to the next release of Scripturizer, please let us know.
Ajax-Powered Scripturizer August 10, 2006

I saw on the ESV blog that the webmasters at Toongabbie have produced a sweet ajax-powered use of the ESV web service to dynamically update the sidebar of their blog when the user selects a Bible reference. The sidebar even displays the footnotes and formatting of the Scripture text. Impressive indeed! Are there any ajax/PHP developers out there who can help us make this sort of functionality a reality for Scripturizer?
Possible Gameplan
- Create a WordPress widget that functions as the updating sidebar location for the verse text.
- Update the core scripturizer code to include the ajax javascript and ESV web service queries.
- Add an option to the admin panel to enable the ajax sidebar feature.
- Consider how we can update the current technique of doing the ESV show/hide in a span tag. The current technique uses preformatted plain text and does not include footnotes, etc.
Would anyone even be interested in such functionality?
What say ye?
