Link to a Scripture Reference with Default Version
After activating the Scripturizer plugin (see download page for installation and activation instructions), making a Scripture reference is easy. Simply type the name of the book and the reference, such as:
- John 3:16,
- or Romans 5:1-4,
- or Genesis 1-2.
You can also use abbreviations for the book names, such as:
- Gen. 1:1,
- Exo. 3-6,
- Psa 2.
All links created in this manner will be linked to your default Bible version (see below).
Link to a Scripture Reference with a Specified Version
To create a Bible link with a version other than your default version, type the abbreviated name of the version after the reference, like this:
- John 1:1 NIV
- Gen. 1-2 LXX
- Exodus 3 NRSV
The list of available versions with their abbreviations is below.
Default Bible Version and Supported Versions
Upon activation, the default Bible version is set to the English Standard Version (ESV). The default can be changed simply by changing the default Bible option on the options/Scripturizer page in your WordPress control panel.
Scripturizer supports many versions (soon to be all versions) from the Bible Gateway plus the NET, NRSV, and LXX. Therefore, the list of supported versions with their corresponding abbreviations (i.e. the abbreviations that you should use in your links) is as follows:
- 1940 Bulgarian Bible (BG1940)
- 21st Century King James Version (KJ21)

Is the v1.7 version usable with WP v2.0.7, or should I use v1.5?
Thanks.

Thanks for this! This plugin is great. Will really help our congregation thanks!
Could you also support linking to bibleserver.com, as it has almost all the german translations?
wow, this is just what i needed, thankyou so so much, and God bless.
How do you get verses spread out like: “Isaiah 1:1 through 4:6″ to ork properly? Thanks!
@David: Isaiah 1:1-4:6
looking forword to include portuguese versions, or at least portuguese citations like joão 3:16
thanks in advanced,
God bless you!
Hi again, can you take a look at this page:
http://www.fbcwaynesboro.org/archives/277
I entered “Philippians 3:1-4:1″
Thanks again!
Sometimes I include a non-breaking space in a scripture reference in order to keep it all on one line. I’d prefer that, and accept a more jagged right edge in return, then to have a linebreak between the book name/abbreviation and the chapter reference.
Is there a way for something like this “Matthew 1:1″ to be recognized by Scripturizer? I’ve been writing my own link to biblegateway, but it would be nice to have it done automagically.
Thanks.
@afwings I am working on updating Scripturizer right now and can add that feature. One thing you could do, is surround your reference with <nobr> tags which should work with the current version of Scripturizer already.
@Peter: Does this mean you are monitoring the Google Project as well?
@Jack: No. The Google Code site has been replaced by the WordPress.org plugin repository and this blog….
A great plugin, but…
The reference 1 Peter 1:23-2:2 doesn’t get completely tagged. Only the 1 Pet 1:23 is tagged.
(Secondly – and less importantly at the moment – how about parsing for a ‘v’ as in the ref: Matthew 1v4 etc)
Thanks for any support and suggestions you can offer!
Is this project now dead?
Is there an updated version to work with WP 2.8.4+ ?
Sleepuser, thank is a known problem. We haven’t found a way around it yet.
Hi Interested, The project’s not dead, but not highly active. The Plugin does work with the latest version of WordPress v2.9.1
I LOVE this plugin, but for the first time ever it does not seem to be working. I am using MySql 5.0 and version 3.2.1 of WordPress. I have the options set up for mouse over, but all it does is show a url to biblia.com in the bottom left hand corner of my screen. I have tried this on several browsers – all with the same result. Could you please advise?
Unfortunately, the Scripturizer project is closed (note the recommended alternatives).
